Steak Laphet

Make a fermented green tea marinade for BBQ steak. Once cooked serve as is, or slice into strips for BBQ steak Laphet tacos! In this recipe also find a quick creamy green tea dressing that is great for dressing the tacos or salad - see hints & tips.

Ingredients

  • 500g Steak

  • 3 tbsp green tea dressing, Mimi Laphet

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1/2 lime, juiced

  • 1/2 tsp ginger, minced or paste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl add Mimi Laphet fermented green tea dressing, olive oil, garlic, ginger & the juice of half a lime. Mix together.

  2. Pour into a baking dish and add your steak, making sure you cover both sides with the marinade.

  3. Leave to marinade for at least 30 mins covered at room temperature.

  4. Preheat the BBQ to hot, season your marinaded steak with salt & pepper.

  5. Cooking times: RARE - 2 mins each side, rest for 2 mins, MED-RARE - 2.5 mins each side, rest for 4 mins, MED - 3 mins each side, rest for 4 mins, MED-WELL - 3.5 mins each side, rest for 4 mins, WELL DONE - 5-6 mins each side, rest for 5 mins.

Steak taco - Turn these steaks into steak Laphet tacos. Grill soft tortillas on the BBQ & wrap in foil to keep warm. After the steak has rested slice into strips. Use GF tortillas to make this dish Gluten free.

Serve with the warm tortillas, cos lettuce and a quick salsa of diced tomato, red onion, fresh parsley ( or coriander) and lemon juice. Top the tacos with fresh avocado and creamy tea dressing - see below.

Creamy dressing - Whether you serve this steak with salad & wedges or turn into tacos, this creamy fermented green tea dressing is a must!

Mix together - 1/2 cup sour cream, 3 tbsp Mimi Laphet dressing, 1 garlic clove, 1 tsp ginger, 1/2 lime + season to taste.

Steak - Use any steak you have on hand. Rump and backstrap are out favourites.
