Ingredients

  • 500g beef mince

  • 1 tbsp Smokey Southern Salt + extra for seasoning

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 egg, whisked

  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 onion, grated

  • 4 Tasty cheese slices

  • Lettuce leaves

  • Tomato slices

  • 4 Bacon rashers

  • 4 Bread rolls

  • Your favourite sauce (e.g., mayo, mustard, or more BBQ sauce)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine beef mince, smokey southern salt blend, tomato paste, egg, breadcrumbs, BBQ sauce, garlic powder, and grated onion. Mix the ingredients thoroughly, shaping the mixture into 4-6 patties. This can be done in advance and popped in the fridge until you are ready to BBQ. Otherwise leave them to rest for 1/2 before BBQing.

  2. Prepare the BBQ by preheating it to medium-high heat, ensuring it's clean and well-oiled.

  3. Slice cheese, wash and dry lettuce leaves, wash and slice tomato, and cook bacon until crispy on the BBQ or stovetop.

  4. Place the patties on the preheated grill, cooking for 4-5 minutes per side. During the last minute, add a slice of cheese on each patty to melt, season with a little extra smokey southern salt to taste.

  5. Toast bread rolls on the BBQ, spread sauce on the bottom half, and assemble burgers with cooked patties, bacon, tomato and lettuce.

  6. Serve and enjoy your Smokey Southern Burgers
